About Diffuser Dell

Who we are, how we choose what to review and why we started.

Diffuser Dell started in a small apartment kitchen that smelled, at any given time, like eucalyptus, burnt plastic, and quiet disappointment. That's where founder Dell Marston spent the better part of two years testing ultrasonic diffusers, nebulizers, and essential oil blends that promised a lot and delivered inconsistent mist patterns, questionable ingredient sourcing, and a surprising number of fire hazards disguised as home decor.

Dell wasn't an aromatherapist by trade. She was a product researcher for a consumer electronics company who got into essential oils after a particularly brutal year of insomnia and office burnout. What she found when she went looking for honest information was a flooded market of affiliate blogs recycling the same ten product photos and copy-pasted "benefits" lists with no actual testing behind them. So she started buying diffusers with her own money, running them side by side on her kitchen counter, and writing down what actually happened.

That spreadsheet eventually became Diffuser Dell.

Who We Are

Diffuser Dell is a small, independent team of three: Dell, who handles product testing and writing; Priya, a certified aromatherapy practitioner who reviews our content for accuracy and safety claims; and Marcus, a former lab technician who helps us evaluate oil purity testing methods and read through GC/MS reports when brands provide them. We're not a massive editorial operation with a content farm behind it. We're a handful of people who care more about whether a diffuser's water tank actually seals properly than about hitting a weekly publishing quota.

How We Review and Choose Products

Every diffuser, oil, or accessory featured on this site goes through a process we've refined over years of trial and error:

  • Purchase, don't borrow. We buy almost everything we review at full retail price, the same way our readers would. This keeps us from being influenced by a brand handing us a pre-selected unit.
  • Real-world testing periods. We run diffusers for a minimum of two weeks in actual living spaces, not a single afternoon on a desk. We track mist output, noise levels at night, tank capacity versus run time, and how the unit holds up to daily refilling.
  • Oil sourcing checks. For essential oils, we look at whether a brand publishes batch-specific purity testing, where the raw materials are sourced, and whether the labeling matches what's actually in the bottle. When available, we cross-reference third-party lab reports rather than taking marketing claims at face value.
  • Safety-first evaluation. Priya reviews every piece of content that makes a wellness or therapeutic claim to make sure we're not overstating what aromatherapy can do, and we flag any product with safety concerns, particularly around pets, children, or respiratory sensitivities.
  • Long-term follow-up. We revisit top-rated products three to six months after the initial review to see if they're still performing well, and we update or pull recommendations if a product's quality drops or a brand changes its formulation.

What Makes Us Trustworthy

We turn down free products when a brand wants editorial control in return, and we say so when a review is based on a sample sent to us at no cost. We don't publish "best of" lists padded with products we haven't personally tested, and if we haven't tried something, we don't rank it. Our affiliate links help keep the site running, but they never determine which products get a positive review or a top spot on a list — our rankings are built from testing notes first, revenue considerations never factor into the rating itself.

We also correct ourselves publicly. If a product we recommended turns out to have quality control issues down the line, we update the original review with a dated note rather than quietly deleting it.

Our Mission

Diffuser Dell exists because we were tired of guessing which diffuser wouldn't leak, which oil blend was actually lavender and not lavender-scented chemistry, and which brands were worth our trust. We test so you don't have to spend two years and a small fortune figuring it out yourself. Whether you're setting up your first diffuser or trying to find an oil that won't trigger a headache, we're here to give you answers based on actual use, not guesswork.
